Clean up your community

Hannaford and Unilever want to help you make a difference in your local community. There are a number of ways to help support green living, but when it comes down to living sustainably, we often don't know where to start. One of the most impactful ways to take action is to clean-up the living space in which you work and play and it's a lot easier than you may think.

From May 2nd through May 31st we challenge you to organize a clean-up in your neighborhood. It can be the street where you live, a local park, a vacant lot, whatever you choose. Simply recruit family, friends, neighbors, and classmates and sign-up your team below.

Make sure to take before and after pictures of your clean-up efforts and e-mail them to us by May 31st for a chance to win:

  • Grand Prize – Trip for 4 to Acadia National Park awarded to the team lead and the remaining team members will each receive (1) $100 Hannaford gift card (up to 9 members 18+)
  • 1st Prize - $50 Hannaford gift card (up to 10 team members 18+)
  • 2nd Prize - $25 Hannaford gift card (up to 10 team members 18+)

Take a tour of Hannaford's Cony Street store, the world's first supermarket built to the highest standards of the US Green Building Council. The store is 44% more energy-efficient than a typical supermarket. Green features include a geothremal heating and cooling system that utilizes water from two wells located 750 feet underground, a state of the art refridgeration system which uses 50% less refrigerant gas than a traditional system and a green roof that provides insulation and helps control storm runoff. The first 2,000 shoppers to take the tour will receive a free Hannaford reusable grocery bag while supplies last!

Walk through the Unilever Sustainability House and learn how to improve your vitality and well-being by making smart choices about your personal care, diet and environmental responsiblities. See what steps Unilever is taking to manage their impact on the environment and learn what you can do to make a difference in your local community. Plus, Hannaford Supermarkets will provide $5 gift cards to the first 400 shoppers that walk through the Unilever house while supplies last!
